O is for Orleans, MA

I'm starting to get this Cape Cod thing.  Generous wine-loving friends invited us for the weekend.  Our toes spent time buried in the line between sand and sea.  Stones were ineptly skipped into surf.  The sea was blue beyond blue.

Those caught in the wash of Cape sea and sky say that the light is different there.  But they don't mention the changes in time-sense.  We didn't want to leave.

Fiber Revival 2008

The last two weeks have passed like a torrent of time.  I have been working 1:1 with a new resident.  That ended last Friday.  Then came Fiber Revival.  It was perfectly timed for the rejuvenation of a tired gas passer.  Take a spectacular summer's day.  Stir in a spinning class.  Fold in knitters and spinners from the Northeast.  Mix with a goodly supply of cooperative and seductive vendors.  Add the salt and pepper of alpacas, to taste. 

Chris has documented our Color Blending class in her post.  My five color choices are shown below.  The left side was thoroughly carded, then spun.  The right side grouping was carded side-by-side on the drum, then spun. 
Kim, and the rest of us, fell in love with J's Drudik wheel.  The mother-of-all rotates freely around the wheel.  It can be used as castle style, left or right hand orifice.  Amazing.  J let us spin on it.  It was more than good.

The day ended with a rapidly moving thunderstorm, lightning illuminating our predicament.  We fled, like the satyrs, nymphs, and centaurs in Fantasia,  as the gods hurled flaming bolts at our gathering.

I have several FOs, and a new Canon Rebel.  It's a tough learning curve right now.  More to come when I actually sit down to understand what I'm doing.

I knew dark chocolate was good.  Now we have data that shows it is good for our heart.

The Interview

Me:  I need your assistance.

Mr. E:  (raised eyebrows, cocks head, *silence*)

Me:  What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Mr. E:  Is this in reference to me or to you?  (I repeated the question.) 
Mr. E.  The companionship of having you there doing something that still keeps you engaged.  It's much more pleasant being around someone who is knitting than someone who is watching TV.

Me:  What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
Mr. E:  When you get frustrated.
Me:  I think that's pretty accurate.

Me:  What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
Mr. E:  Everything.  But especially the sweater, scarf and hat that I wear all the time.

Me:  Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
Mr. E:  No.

Me:  Do you have any hobbies?
Mr. E:  Yep.

Me:  What are your hobbies?
Mr. E:  Math and computer stuff.

Me:  If we compared money spent on hobbies, who would win?
Mr. E:  We both win.  I've been married a while.

Me:  Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
Mr. E:  Nope.
Me:  You can't remember any times in particular?
Mr. E:  Not at conferences, not when we have been traveling, no.

Me:  Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
Mr. E:  Alpaca!

Me:  Can you name another blog?
Mr. E:  Zeneedle.

Me:  Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
Mr. E:  No.

Me:  Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
Mr. E:  Not in the cosmic sense.
Me:  Keeping going.  (I'm laughing.)
Mr. E:  That's enough.

Me:  Do you read Etherknitter?
Mr. E:  Yes!

Me:  Have you ever left a comment?
Mr. E:  No.

Me:  Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn't knit?
Mr. E:  Really?  No.  We have trash no matter what hobbies we have.

Me:  Is there anything you would like to add in closing?
Mr. E:  No.  What is this for?  Does this have some meaning?
Me:  This is an interview, and you have just given me a blog post.
Mr. E:  *shakes head*  *returns to reading on the porch while the hummingbirds fight*  *sips from glass of wine*
