There was a birthday this year. Someone special. Someone who is knitworthy had a birthday this year.
I wanted the knit to give the birthday girl a hug. When I saw the Willow cowl, the yarn was easy. I had the yarn in a colorway that was originally named by the birthday girl.
The pattern was easy, but the yarn? Not enough. I modified the pattern invisibly. Fewer rows for some of the repeats. I thought I was very clever until I found I had to be even more clever to make up for my previous cleverness. The cowl was finally finished, in time, and it was perfect.
We were in Park City, Utah. The courtyard near the restaurant (where we were to meet) had a sculpture, but the necks were too thin.
Exploration of the gallery that belonged to the thin necks presented other alternatives. The amiable gallery guy let us take pictures. (His nonverbals did communicate his opinion that we were harmless, but beyond strange.)
The birthday girl seemed to like her present. Her picture is here. I knew she would forgive the surrogate that stood in for her.
Pattern: Willow Cowl

With this post, NaBloPoMo is done. I actually have more to say, even after 30 days of this.
