F is for Fencing

No, there is nothing here related to gardening.  This has nothing to do with pawnsh0ps.

Foiled again.

Dscn9779 The Etherknitters go at it in public.

Fencing has been on my lifelist.  We had the chance, so I took a stab at it.  The instructor showed us three parries, and three blocks.  He taught us basic attack and retreat footwork.

Then he let us flail away at each other.

In REAL fencing, one drills and drills and drills so that the footwork and the attacks are in muscle memory.  We had a 45 minute session of pure aggressive beginner fun.

I may try this again someday.

How fun! Dale and I both love that photo of you!

How cool! That looks really fun.

You look fierce!

Oh wow! I learned fencing back in high school, and very much enjoyed it. Your post takes me back in time. Cool!

My best friend dragged me off to fencing lessons in university. We nicknamed our instructor Sargent Slaughter cuz he was so tough on us. It was lots of fun. We got to compete with the more experienced fencers. One of them tagged me on the *back* of my right shoulder once. That was a really neat move. I always ended up covered in bruises. Did they make you wear 'cups'?

I had to take fencing in college and really liked it. I wasn't any good, but liked it better than modern dance, another requirement! Do not think that is something T and I should ever try, though. At least on the pistol range we aren't going AT EACH OTHER! You guys look great, though, and if anyone gets hurt, well there are a few doctors around!

I would definitely not mess with you when a pointy object is in your hand.

F is also for formidable, which is exactly how you look in that wonderful last photo. How great that you two can literally poke fun at each other.

The cutting puns fly. You had as much fun with the puns as the fencing. Something about rapier wit?

I can just see the two of you having a ripping good time! En Garde!

Oh, that is excellent! I love that last photo of you.

Is it not a hoot? Oddly enough, one could take fencing as a physical education requirement class fulfiller at the college I attended. A lot of us theater major types took it. It's great exercise!

"F" is also for you-know-what. As in, I wouldn't f*... with you with that foil in your hand.

You look like a natural! I used to work for a professor who, in another life, was an international fencer (is that the right word)? We had sabres (and probably some foils and epees) all over the office. Ah, academia!

VERY cool! Good for you tacking one of those life list dreams!

First falconry, now fencing... you have all the coolest Fs. :-)

Hmm... I think Grant and I need to do this too...

Wonderful! I wonder if C would take it personally if I told him we should try fencing.

You look good with the pointy stick.

You know, I have a few WIPs that could use a wicked pointy stick like that aimed at them to make 'em sit up and knit straight.

love that gleaming epee in the last photo (grin)
You look like a natural!
(I did fencing in Highschool and loved it!)

Oh, I wish... Looks like great fun. Controlled and artful aggression.

What a hoot!

And I can't help it that the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the last photo is "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You killed my father, prepare to die!

I was a member of the fencing club at university for a year. It IS great isn't it?

I entered a beauty contest later that year and was asked - on local radio - about my favourite things to do. Thousands of people learned that I liked to poke people near the face with sharp, pointy sticks - just as their (and my) mother told them not to do.
(Didn't win the beauty contest for some reason.)

Happy knitting,
Janey
